Accessibility

Software should not create barriers to doing the work.

We want shearr.co.uk, and the SHEARR application as it develops, to be usable by as many people as possible. Accessibility is being treated as a product and engineering requirement rather than a final visual check.

Our target

Working toward WCAG 2.2 AA.

The public website is being reviewed against WCAG 2.2 Level AA, including keyboard operation, visible focus, semantic structure, form feedback, colour contrast, zoom and reflow, reduced motion and touch-target usability.

We are not claiming formal conformance until that test pass has been completed and documented. Any issues found during testing will be tracked and fixed as part of launch readiness.

Current approach

Accessibility is included in the build, not left to the copy.

The site uses semantic navigation and headings, labelled form controls, assistive-technology announcements for form status, visible keyboard focus and reduced-motion handling. These foundations are being supplemented with automated and manual testing.

Found a barrier?

Tell us what did not work.

If you have difficulty accessing information or using part of this website, please tell us what happened, what device or assistive technology you were using if relevant, and which page caused the problem.

We will use that information to investigate the issue rather than asking users to work around it.
